I spent the summer of 2018 at Amerpass International Inc, working part-time (three days a week, 10-5). From the start I felt a sense of integrity in working with Seven Stories, especially because they are not looking to publish for profit. With every book that I read and worked on over the summer, I could sense that the staff cared about the company's output, and wanted to send out works based on importance and relevance instead of how much money it would reel in. Overall, this sort of attitude made me feel better about the work I was doing, and it's a definite plus for anybody looking to work at a publishing company. Because the staff is quite small, there is constantly things to do at Amerpass International. I was never bored during the summer, as there was always some sort of task that I could work on, whether it be mailing out review copies, writing reader's reports, or simply answering the phone. I didn't have one specific boss, and would often get tasks from all different parts of the office—management, PR, editorial, etc. This was one of my first internships ever, and everybody accommodating as I slowly climbed the learning curve. Everybody from my fellow interns to the director was willing to answer my questions and help me along the way—I never felt intimidated or disheartened by anybody in the office, and in general I felt welcome. Lastly, throughout the internship, I was encouraged to become familiar with the catalogue and read through what they've published, which was a major plus, as there were free books, and free knowledge, too.
